John von Seggern is a producer, sound designer, bassist and DJ, relocated to Southern California in 2001 after a decade spent in Asia (Tokyo and Hong Kong) performing and recording with some of the region's most influential artists. 
 
He has performed his unique blend of techno electro jazz at countless clubs, festivals and events in Asia and the US. His Hong Kong-based band Digital Cutup Lounge has released two CDs, Cutup Mixdown and Network Effects, in addition to remixing numerous international artists.

Von Seggern now lives in Los Angeles, where he has been running Vibration Institute since 2007 and playing live techno and IDM, as well as doing electronic sound design for film projects. 

He has worked with film composer Thomas Newman and contributed additional sound design effects to the Oscar-nominated soundtrack of the Pixar film WALL-E.

He works for German music software company Native Instruments and has been a collaborator and music technology consultant for numerous composers and producers in the LA area including Herbie Hancock, Dweezil Zappa, Steve Tavaglione, Paul Haslinger and John Beasley.

John von is also a jazz bassist and plays regularly around the LA area with dub jazz group Thelonious Dub.

Steve Tavaglione

Steve Tavaglione is one of the leading electronic sound designers and session musicians in Los Angeles, performing on saxophone and woodwinds as well as creating abstract ambient textures and sound effects for film and television productions.

He is best known for his pioneering Latin fusion group Caldera, his playing with noted electric jazz keyboardist Scott Kinsey, and his extensive work in TV and film music. He has recorded for television programs such as CSI, CSI:NY and Charmed, and films including WALL.E, Finding Nemo, Road to Perdition, Sex in the City, Tropic Thunder, Jarhead, Oceans 11, 12, and 13 and many others. He has released two solo records, Blue Tav in 1990 and Silent Singing in 1997.

He has also recorded and performed with Sergio Mendes, Roger Waters, Michael Jackson, Vinnie Colaiuta, John Patitucci, Scott Kinsey, Scott Henderson and countless others.

Tavaglione's latest music combines his long-time interest in ambient and experimental electronic music with innovative post-jazz improvisation.

DCL was founded by John von and UK collaborator Stephen Ives in Hong Kong in late 1999, pioneering the use of computers for DJing in Asia. They have released two CDs as well as numerous remixes, compilation tracks, and online-only collections like the 746b Sessions available elsewhere on this site.
